Our fabulous adventure begins today as we set our sights on the Southwest and spend our first night in St Louis, Mo., located on the Mississippi River. Take a walk to the Gateway Arch if you like.   L

Travel on through Missouri and to the Sooner State of Oklahoma. Lunch will be at Hemingway’s Restaurant located inside Bass Sporting Goods. Our next stop will be the memorial and museum of the famous Will Rogers.  Enjoy the view here at the place this world traveler called home.  Overnight near Catoosa, OK.  BL         

monday october 9, 2023

Today we’ll make an early morning stop to visit the Murrah Building Memorial in downtown Oklahoma City.  Then tour the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. This beautiful museum has memorabilia from movies of the West, as well as offerings by such great artists as Charles Russell and Frederick Remington.  We continue on to Amarillo, TX, where we actually take our bus to the bottom of Palo Duro Canyon, the second largest canyon in the country, to see the rainbow hued hard rock strata created by millions of years of erosion.  Overnight in Amarillo.   B

This morning we travel to Sante Fe, New Mexico's fourth largest city.  Averaging 300 sunny days a year this area offers many unique shopping and dining opportunities.  This historic city is filled with museums, shops and Native American wares for sale.  A visit to Loretto Chapel to see the mysterious flying staircase will be included today.  Later this afternoon we'll arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico for our three-night stay.  Our hotel is within walking distance of the famous plaza in Old Town Albuquerque.  Dinner on your own at one of the restaurants featuring everything from the All-American hamburger to delightful Chile dishes, which evolved from a combination of Indian and Spanish recipes.  B

Early this morning our coach will depart for the Balloon Fiesta Grounds for the morning ascension of over 700 balloons. We may see one of the special events such as the key race in which they compete to grab car keys from a pole to win a new car.  Please bring a jacket, as it can be quite cool in the early morning hours.  Coffee and donuts and a place to sit and rest will be provided at our special tent for motor coach travelers.  Mid morning we'll return to the hotel.  This afternoon will include a visit to the Sandia Peak to ride the world's longest tram to the summit for a great view of the city, followed by an included dinner.   BD

Today we'll visit "Sky City" to have a tour of Acoma Pueblo which has been regarded as the oldest continuously inhabited community in the U.S.  A native American will lead us through this community located on top of a butte.  The Sky City Cultural Center at the base offers more insight on Acoma's living history and culture. This evening we'll return to the Balloon Fiesta to see the balloons lit up against the night sky and we'll stay for the evening fireworks, weather permitting.   BL

Departing Albuquerque after this most memorable experience, we will make our morning rest stop at Roswell, NM at an “alien” McDonalds.  Then we’re on to Carlsbad, NM where we will visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park. You can actually walk into this Cavern to see the formations of stalactites and stalagmites, or you can opt for the elevator to view one of the largest caves in North America. Truly amazing! Our overnight will be in the city of Carlsbad.    B

San Antonio, TX is our destination today. We stay at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk.  Enjoy your evening on the Paseo Del Rio.  This beautiful walkway has been created on the San Antonio River right through the downtown area. Overnight accommodations will be at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk.  There are many great restaurants to choose from for dinner this evening.  Lots of activity!    B

This morning, we visit two of the missions here, one of them being the famous Alamo.  Then we will return to our hotel where we will board one of their elegant barges.  A special lunch will be served to us as we tour the San Antonio River area.  This lunch is always one of the highlights of the tour.  After lunch, we depart for our overnight in Baytown, TX.   BL

Our destination today is New Orleans.  Our home for a 2-night stay is the Four Points by Sheraton on Bourbon Street.  Just step out the front door and you are in the heart of the French Quarter.  We will have a city tour to get you acquainted with this great Cajun city.  Then get ready to enjoy your free evening walking the streets, listening to jazz, and trying one of their great restaurants.   B

A free morning.  Perhaps you will want to use your coupon for a cup of coffee and a beignet at the Café Dumond.  Do some wandering and shopping on your own and then we meet for a jazz luncheon cruise on the Steamboat Natchez.  It is the only authentic steamboat in New Orleans.  Listen to the calliope as you cruise the great Mississippi River.  The rest of the day is yours to explore all the amenities of "Nawlins".   BL

Memphis beckons us today. Our hotel is located in the heart of the city, just blocks from Beale Street.   The evening is yours to explore and take advantage of the many restaurants located around our hotel and to enjoy the “Blues” emanating from the Beale Street emporiums as you stroll along.   BL

We could not leave Memphis without stopping at Elvis Presley’s Graceland for a tour of the mansion. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006.   Our last overnight is near Louisville, KY.  B

friday october 20, 2023

This morning we will tour Churchill Downs. We’ll get to go down to the track – some horses will most likely be working out for their next race, they also have a great movie of a horse race – you’ll think you are part of the action. A mid-evening arrival home is expected. L
